Common Questions
Do I need to bring my own AI provider API key?
Yes. OpenClaw Provider manages the deployment and infrastructure while you supply your own AI service credentials. OpenClaw works with Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, and self-hosted models like Ollama or llama.cpp if your server has GPU hardware. Each messaging integration also requires its own platform token (WhatsApp Business API key, Discord bot token, etc.).
How does the self-hosted model work?
You set up a server on any supported cloud platform — DigitalOcean, Vultr, Hetzner, AWS, Akamai, or your own dedicated hardware — and provide us SSH access. We take care of installing, configuring, and maintaining your OpenClaw instance. Your data never leaves your own infrastructure.
What server specs do I need?
A minimum of 2 vCPU cores, 2 GB RAM, and 20 GB storage is recommended. Running local language models on the server itself requires dedicated GPU resources. We provide step-by-step provisioning guides for every supported hosting platform.
What exactly is an OpenClaw gateway?
A gateway is one independent OpenClaw profile within your deployment. Each gateway gets its own workspace, identity, and set of connections — it can manage files, execute shell commands, operate a browser, and connect to multiple chat platforms like Discord, Slack, Telegram, and WhatsApp at the same time. You can run several gateways on a single server.
Can I change plans whenever I want?
Absolutely. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing for the remainder of your cycle. Downgrades apply at the start of your next billing period so you keep current features until then.
Is there a long-term contract?
No commitment required. You can cancel at any time and continue using the service through the rest of your current billing cycle.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal, processed securely through Stripe.
Does annual billing come with a discount?
